Due to rain I exchanged the slippery slopes for the gym today and spent 2 totally intense hours there untill it closed. Had it stayed open longer I would have done more sets.

I had worried a bit about needing to go down on resistance/weight on the machines because I have prioritized hiking the last month to wlrking out at the gym, I needed not have worried. I maintained level or improved on all. It goes to show that hiking in uneven terrain with lots of altitude challenges really works the whole body.

I started warming up rowing but ended up wanting to beat my personal best of 1h. In the end I did 1h10 on level 10 and at a higher intensity than the last time so that was one personal best. That is 7.5 miles rowed

Then I switched like crazy between doing upper and lower body exercises so that every second was spent working out.

On the leg press machine the highest number of resistance/weight possible is 200kg. To beat that one has been a personal goal for some time and today I did it. Now that my belly is less in the way I will be able to do a bigger range of motion than what I did in the beginning. No wonder they call leg press "an ego boost for the beginner lifter". I do not mind. I love it. It makes me feel strong without triggering knee pains. Also it works several and large muscle groups which I find great.

The hikes like yesterday's when the altitude increase during it was 1500feet has given me great gluts I think hehehe. My bad knees can also handle challenges better these days :-)

Now that the inflammation in my upper arm and shoulder has kept away for a while I hope to be able to increase the weight on exercises that use the arms too. Shoulder press and chest press has been exercises that has been near impossible to do at all in several periods the last couple of years due to that bad arm that kept freezing and giving me insane pains. I swear, I would rather give birth.

Today I am very proud and very much look forward to continuing my journey towards strength and fitness.

tri-mv@online.no's pictureChecking out the workout section on FT, a fitness place online I have joined, I could not stick to my plan of having a rest day so I jumped into the car and drove to the Gym. Went crazy according to my pelvisregion and spent 60 minutes on the rowing machine (last personal best was 25 minutes. Had to do about 15 minutes of flexibility after that to release the muscles who shook quite much when I dragged myself off the machine. I knew however that I pushed myself a millimeter to the right side of the thin balance of the pain being a bad pain and a undangerous one.

From last week on my mental state has been one of wanting to break boundries and a willingness to take the pain that has and will follow. It is kind of overworking on purpose. I am not always in a phase where that is possible so LOL I do it when it is and while it lasts. Next week can be filled with weather triggering my joints not being willing so I just grab every day now when the risk of injury is low.

After the flexibility training I did 35 minutes of Strength training. I was a bit annoyed that my cold + holiday meant that I had to lower the weight on some and that some felt harder. Fortunately it usually only takes a couple of times for that to be back :-). I do want those numbers to get higher too soon.

BUT, running of to the gym on a seconds whim, I dropped half of meal 3 because I naturally did not want to be filled up right before exercising. I do not regret it because I feel very proud of myself at the moment and so does my grown daughter too and that too is an added bonus.

Looking forward to hopefully telling you all of more victories in the future even though I think it will take some time before I break that personal best in rowing. hehehe

3 hour workout

tri-mv@online.no's picture

We're quite a bit ahead here in Norway timewise compared to the US so the Olympic Games cerimony started at 03.00 here. I slept while that happened but early in the mroning a repeat started. The choice was then whether to start my day watching physical activity or being active myself. Still too cold outside for a nice walk so the Gym was the only option this early.

Of course I went to the gym :-). Getting there with more than 3 hours to spare before they closed this Saturday I gave myself a challenge in honor of my daughter's 22nd Bday today; To give it all those 3 hours.

And I did!. I spent every pause between sets in one exercise either stretching or doing another exercise. After feeling let down by my body yesterday I also needed to recapture the feeling of me being in charge of my body and not the other way around. So well done me!

Afterwards I went for a short quiet walk outdoors to enjoy a wonderful sunny and blue sky weather which made it fairly warm in the sun although still very cold in the shade. If this weather continues my plan is for a very long walk tomorrow.

Wishing you all a great Olympic Games and workout weekend. :-)

Today I started the twice weekly Back and Neck Training that is lead by a Physiotherapist. It was very good because it was kind of low intensity but still felt very intense because she made us do exercises that challenged our bodies with movements that we either normally don't do or have taught ourselves not to do to avoid pain. Several very simple exercises were quite difficult just for that reason. That made me very satisfied and determined to continue with it even though it is a bit challenging because it lasts a bit after my work starts. An understanding inspector and principal at my work makes it possible, at least for a time.

Well, I skipped the last part which was relaxation (somewhat similar to autogen training I think) and run from the gym hall to the classroom. In short it is hectic to make it possible, but I think it will be worth that and the costs.

After work and the after work meeting I went home but was not satisfied so in the end I drove down to the Gym tonight and spent 66 minutes on the treadmill hehe. For some strange reason I ended up with blisters UNDER my foot today. Very strange.

tri-mv@online.no's picture

Another cold and windy day. Very beautiful but that cold wind ruined some of the enjoyment of being outdoors during breaks today.

I very much wanted today to be a day of walking outdoors but had nearly decided that it really would be too uncomfortable, also because I was a bit stiff as well with aching knees.

BUT then I decided that my mantra for February should be "When in doubt, do it!" so I drove home and with double layers and a scarf three times around my neck and lower face I started walking. I told myself that I would at least endure 15 minutes. I ended up doing 45. The first 30 my right knee kept complaining (not in a dangerous way), then after 30 minutes I think it gave up and I felt nothing more LOL. Then as usual my right foot' toes cramped up as they always do for a strange reason. They do that when I walk on different surfaces and in different shoes. BUT I COMPLETED THE WALK :-) and was very happy about that.

Being close to the Gym I now decided to drop in and do some stretches there and maybe, just maybe some upper body workout. Decided that it probably would be wise to warm up my upper body a bit more so I hit the rowing machine. It has been a long time since I have used it so I had no expectations at all or rather negative ones due to knee being a bit uncooperative. So I told myself I would at least try to do 5 minutes, then at least 50 kcal, then 10 min, 100 kcal etc etc. Did 15 minutes - 122 kcal on level 10 of 10 possible levels :-) Was very proud of myself but probably looked like a wreck stumbling out of the contraption :-)

Did about 30 min on upper body work, lots of stretches, some abs and then cooled down by 5 min slowly walking on the treadmill.

Only one thing left to do - send a bragging sms to daughter LOL.

Now I will enjoy well deserved filled plaice with vegs and natural rice.
