Today I have worked my fingers sore framing paintings for the Cultural Evening at the church where there will be musical performances as well as art displays.

My daughter was home on a short visit and helped me sort through mypaintings to find suitable series and paintings that would work well together. In the end we were quite satisfied with the selection. I also made ready a few extras because it is so hard to know how it will look until we start putting them up on the walls.

Since another painter and also the two photograpers will probably only show landscapes, I decided to show my semiabstracts, mostly figures and symbolic meanings. That way we can all shine without taking any light from each other.

This painting was inspired by a class Ellen my coclassteacher made on why our image gets distorted and even upside down when we look at ourself on both sides of a shiny spoon.

Definition Wikipedia
A distortion is the alteration of the original shape (or other characteristic) of an object, image, sound, waveform or other form of information or representation. Distortion is usually unwanted.

Quotes
It's not only imagination, it's the distortion of the vision. You suddenly think, This person is idealistic, this person is strong, this person has dreams, when you know better most of the time. You put what you want to see on people.
Olivier Martinez

This would be a distortion of their meaning, since the pictures are intimate and intense, and are the opposite of what is decorative; and have been painted in a scale of normal living rather than an institutional scale.
Mark Rothko

About Expressionism

Expressionism is the tendency of an artist to distort reality for an emotional effect. Expressionism is exhibited in many art forms, including painting, literature, film, architecture and music. Additionally, the term often implies emotional angst - the number of cheerful expressionist works is relatively small.

I was pleased reading this because I felt that my works ended up emotionally gloomy too often LOL but it seems that is the norm for expressionistic works

To be on "bended knees" has so many different meanings to different persons, both positive and negative . One thing is sure I think, It is not an image that is neutral. I hope you like my semiabstract figure paintings. I would love comments on these paintings of mine because people see so many different things in them.
