And Dragonfly practice 2 as well as mantis practice 2, a rat in ink on imitaiton silk and “Italian Alps 1”, “Flowers” on the very absorbent paper, “Chinese Mountain 1” and “Trees by the Lake” will be on their way to NC.

This is one of the things I focus on lately. I am so exited and can't wait for this cocoon with chinese praying mantises to hatch. Hopefully it will happen tomorrow night or Thursday and during the day so that I can watch.

I was so satisfied with how this one turned out. I very much hope that you see what I see. HINT: It is kind of like the illusion images.

Today I have been raking the ground outside LOL in between the rain. And also started to plant some flowers indoors. Spring is finally starting to arrive properly and bit by bit we will see the world turn into green again and a rainbow of flowers decorate every garden. I plan on having most of mine in ceramic boxes this year and continue the work on my rock garden.

In addition to this I have done what many of us do when it is raining - I have read and spent time on the computer. When you hear what I did there some of you will think me mad. I have read about stick insects and praying mantis. There are soooo many interesting species. AND . . . I must admit that finding many available on ebay tempted me beyond my will power. LOL some collect expensive shoes or bags - I end up collecting insect species.
This painting is made using melted coloured beeswax and I feel that it very well shows what I would like a happy place to feel like. The painting is much shinier live and the colours brilliant. It is midnight here now and that is not the best time to take photos of shiny objects. I will try to get a better photo tomorrow morning and exchange this one.

Today I set up my living room table with all my chinese brush painting paraphenalia. My goal for the weekend is to practice insects. Here are my first tries in quite a while.

This one I think ended up fairly OK - I liked the autumn feel of it.

Below is the same painting in a green mount to show you how it could look if we used only a portion of it. It looked quite nice in my opinion. This was a new brand of rice paper and this far I am hapy with the quality.

This is one I was not happy about but nevertheless it was good practice as how the colours act with the paper..

This is a print of a drawing my very talented collegue Ottar Flated did as a 10 minute demonstration for the students of my class. I so wish I could draw like him.

We have had a wonderful day with warm sun and even some students turning up in capri throusers or shorts. Thursday we will have rain again. I must admit I have started to dream about the part of spring that means greenery and colours. Everything is still mostly brown and greyish. In the end me and my trusted painting knife splashed out with greens and reds and here is the result.

These days spring is finally arriving one tiny step at a time here in Norway and many of us flock to the shops to find something thinner to wear. That is when many also start their yearly struggle to make the body thinner as well and their daily or weekly date with the scale.

VIETNAMESISK PINNE, Medauroidea extradentata
(Earlier knows as Baculum extradentatum) STICK INSECT

Medauroidea extradentata is a very stick-like species with two devil-like horns sprouting from its head. Smaller pointed bumps run along portions of it's thorax. Most specimens have small flanges on the middle set of legs, and minute spikes up and down the legs. They originate from Vietnam. The species is parthenogenetic in most cultures (including mine), so they are all female, but males are fairly common in some cultures. The ova have a salt and pepper appearance, with a black capitulum.

I think I have been hooked - I even consider praying mantises. Here are my lovely ones.

Some days girls just wants to have fun. I had fun painting this.

My daughter visited tonight and made chicken tandori for us and we had chocolate ice cream while watching "Desperate Housewives". A real girly night so I think this is a very suitable painting to display tonight. ;-)

Today the weather started out with sun and all rejoiced but suddenly we got hails coming down - not big ones but nevertheless. . . .

At school we had a visiting author and I must admit I got my interest in haiku poems rekindled so do not be very surpriced if you should suddenly see some newbie tries in that genre here on the blog.

This Friday Drangedal had it's spring Cultural Evening at Drangedal Church.

The program was a mixture of all kinds of mucical entertainment from the local music school to singers and other musical perfeormers from the area. In addition we were two women displaying our paintings and tho men displaying photos.

First of all here is the program. In the end the minister and I decided we would just say abstract paintings instead of printing all the titles.

My paintings were displayed on both sides right when you enter the main room in the church. Due to the church being on a cultural saving list we could not put as much as 1 nail into the walls so in the end we used bluetack and besides that put the paintings in frames that could stand either in teh window or on the table or a bench. I chose simple silver frames to make them fit in with the way the church was painted.

A look forward from my work into the main area of the church.

And a closer look on my display of abstract figure painting on the table. I also had 3 of my bird paintings in watercolour on that table.

I had 3 works displayed in the window on the other side and two on the wall beside it. They had safetylines to a hook that was there before and that was a good thing because suddenly one of the paintings started to dangle in the air when the bluetack came untacked.

This was also one of the areas that was used for serving coffee and cake during the pause.

Here is a photo of Elvira Oseids paintings which were hung from the gallery as well as on the walls in the left wing. They are all naturalistic so I chose to only show my abstracts

On the right wing side the photos were displayed. The photo is taken after all the visitors had left.

One of the students in my class Fredrik gdynia played Air by Bach. I so love that music.

I thought I had to show myself too. I am not too happy about the photo and it is a bit blurred but that is how it ended. LOL I would also have liked to be a couple of sized smaller myself

Here is one of the singers and a couple of the lovely floral arrangements by Reidun Jacobsen who has also done the lovely drawings on the front of the program as well as decorating teh church and helped hang the photos.
