Today's painting I have called "Burning" and depending on your as the viewer's background I imagine you will interprete it differently from other viewers. Today's painting turned out very differently from what i planned. As often happens with me happened, the painting itself demanded to become how it became. I had nothing else to do than to accept it.

serenity - the absence of mental stress or anxiety

The Serenity Prayer is the common name for an originally untitled prayer written by the theologian Reinhold Niebuhr in the 1930s or early 1940s.

God, give us grace to accept with serenity
the things that cannot be changed,
courage to change
the things that should be changed,
and the wisdom
to distinguish the one from the other.

This is how it looks in Norwegian

The philosopher W.W. Bartley juxtaposes Niebuhr's prayer with a Mother Goose rhyme expressing a similar sentiment.

For every ailment under the sun
There is a remedy, or there is none;
If there be one, try to find it;
If there be none, never mind it.

Quotes

"Serenity is not the freedom from the storm,
but peace amid the storm”

“Boredom is the feeling that everything is a waste of time; serenity, that nothing is.”
Thomas S. Szasz quotes (Hungarian psychiatrist and Professor of Psychiatry Emeritus at State University of New York Health Science Center in Syracuse, b.1920) nodp

It is so sad that it is so difficult to get perfect photos or paintings on black backgrounds and which has shiny colours. This one is made using only a painting knife and it is very tactile.

About 2 year ago I did two vulcano paintings in connection with an exhibition and a small boy fell for it totally. In the end I ended up putting a query for his name into the local newspaper because I forgot who he was and no less than two other small boys came forward. naturally I had to make an extra one. Last night after having been on a lovely visit which included seeing kittens being born, I suddenly wanted to play with fire again, so here is the first one inspired by vulcanos and fire.

Mountain Top,
medium: oil on canvas panel
size: 24x30cm
$200
One visual metaphor, which is used a lot, is the mountain. People want to get to the mountaintop and every life coach or guru will happily tell us how to get to the mountaintop if only we’ll send some money their way.

I love the mountain as a metaphor and have used it a lot myself in my struggle to make sense of my life and myself. About 6 years ago I realized that I DO NOT WANT to make it to the top. I have no urge to become the very best, or the richest or the most famous. I would very much like to be considered GOOD as in a good mum, a good teacher and a good artist, though. Halfway up the mountain is where I want to go.

The top is so windy and the last stretch so dangerous and exhausting. To me it is not worth the struggle. Another thing is that the competition and therefore the envy and backstabbing and intrigue are so much fiercer at the top level. No fame or fortune would be worth that for me. I have never dreamed about becoming a princess either, because I have never seen anything to envy in that life.

This makes me the perfect candidate for the daily painter movement. We want to make quality art available for ordinary people with ordinary incomes like ourselves. Being on the very top in the art world would make the prices so high that ordinary persons could not afford it and make a distance to the customers. I paint for people like you and me – people who are half way up the mountain.
But the mountaintops are lovely to view from half way up the mountain even though we might not want to climb them. J

So sorry, again me, the paint and the painting knife went into anothe dimention, so this one two you only get in 2 steps. This one two has a blue background. I said initially that I did not know whether I anted it to be a land or dep ocean plant. The way it ended I still have not decided. By making the leaves semiabstract they can be whatever the viewer want them to be and I like that style or hehehe rather that style takes control over me.

Again sorry about photo flash reflections.

A collector and friend in the States bought In the Womb I but unfortunately something had happened to it so she asked me to try to make a similar one because she had fallen so hard for it. Unfortunately for her I am not able to copy exactly what I do in one painting in another because each ainting is a happening between the canvas or paper and me at that time and that interaction can not be copied. But, I was glad to try and I am more happy with the results today than I was initially when I made no 1. I am also very glad that this commision gave me a much needed kick in the butt to get my oils out again. Only problem is that now I will have wet canvases all over the house again. takes usually 3 weeks before an oil painting is dry enough to touch unless you add a drying agent into the paint and I am not too happy about doing that.

Note made later:
The original painting surfaced - it had taken a detour due to US Mail, so the paintings are therefore for sale.
