These days there are a lot of books out which discusses whether God exists, can be proved, is a fiction and similar. I am very fascinated by all kinds of religions and philosophies and how we humans use them in our lives.

Also lately probably due to it having been easter, History Channel has had several interesting documentaries lately related to old parts of the Bible.

Just before the weekend a group of my students went down to the library where they have a Quran exhibition these days and came up with lots of leaflets as well as Qurans they had received.

I teach religious studies and enjoy very much to learn more. I am hovewer very scared about any kind of extremists no matter what religious or political or atheist belief they have.

This paintings is meant as to show symbolically how in our hour of need we need to pray - that is often the only thing left to do when we desper.

Sometimes we take a step away from the everyday chores and life and try to look at our lives as from the outside. I chose to let this figure be kind of outside of time and space for a small moment. Of ocurse you as a wiever are free to interprete the painting as you like.

In these modern times I think many get so used to being entertained that we often do not start doing something but end up just waiting for something to happen or someone to entertain us.

On the 11. April there will be a cultural Evening in the church here in Drangedal. There will be artists as well as photos and paintings displayed. Today reading the newspaper I got a chock - it seems I am the only painter - I thought we'd be several. The lady to the left is Magnild Gillberg, an amazing local artist and a lovely lady and friend. She and the rest is part of the Cluture board. The man in the middle is the principal of the culture school which is responsible for music education here among other things. The last person is the priest of the church.

The newspaper managed to forget to put my last name in LOL and wrote only Trine Meyer which is quite well done considering I am a columnist in the paper. And LOL even more astonishing is the fact that this article is written by my ex father in law and HE should now that my last name is Vogsland hehehe. Maybe he there and then thought that I had changed my name.

I will keep you updated on how this exhibition turns out.

The Easter week has been a mixture of lovely weather and the winter returning once more with a couple of new layers of snow. Nature like me seems to have ben dormant and waiting for spring. I am now mentally very ready for a bare landscape to take walks in. Just having restarted on a diet and hping to be able to get lots of physical activity in, I hope for nice outdoors weather.

serenity - the absence of mental stress or anxiety

The Serenity Prayer is the common name for an originally untitled prayer written by the theologian Reinhold Niebuhr in the 1930s or early 1940s.

God, give us grace to accept with serenity
the things that cannot be changed,
courage to change
the things that should be changed,
and the wisdom
to distinguish the one from the other.

This is how it looks in Norwegian

The philosopher W.W. Bartley juxtaposes Niebuhr's prayer with a Mother Goose rhyme expressing a similar sentiment.

For every ailment under the sun
There is a remedy, or there is none;
If there be one, try to find it;
If there be none, never mind it.

Quotes

"Serenity is not the freedom from the storm,
but peace amid the storm

Boredom is the feeling that everything is a waste of time; serenity, that nothing is.
Thomas S. Szasz quotes (Hungarian psychiatrist and Professor of Psychiatry Emeritus at State University of New York Health Science Center in Syracuse, b.1920) nodp

My poor longhaird cat has obviously been fighting during the night. This is how it looked right outside my stairs this morning. Lots of hair even though it has been windy and he is limping a bit.

It is so sad that it is so difficult to get perfect photos or paintings on black backgrounds and which has shiny colours. This one is made using only a painting knife and it is very tactile.

About 2 year ago I did two vulcano paintings in connection with an exhibition and a small boy fell for it totally. In the end I ended up putting a query for his name into the local newspaper because I forgot who he was and no less than two other small boys came forward. naturally I had to make an extra one. Last night after having been on a lovely visit which included seeing kittens being born, I suddenly wanted to play with fire again, so here is the first one inspired by vulcanos and fire.

I have been struggling with the usual blue and tired feeling of the start of a holiday today. You probably know what I mean. Before the holidays you htink about all you want to do but as soon as the mind and body realizes that you can rest it grabbs it and you fall a bit apart in the beginning. That is the beginning of the holiday blues. No wonder my muse would not allow me to paint even straws on this stripe of coast.

Quotes on Loneliness

Loneliness
Is
An island
In
The middle
Of
A sea of people
R.R (aged 11)

Loneliness is part of being human.
It reminds us that we are not
Complete in ourselves.
David Runcorn

People are lonely because they build
Walls instead of bridges.
J.Newton

“We're born alone, we live alone, we die alone.
Only through our love and friendship can we create the illusion
for the moment that we're not alone.”
Orson Welles

“The most terrible poverty is loneliness, and the feeling of being unloved.”
Mother Teresa

“Pray that your loneliness may spur you into finding something
to live for, great enough to die for.”
Dag Hammarskjold

“What loneliness is more lonely than distrust?”
T.S. Eliot

“Loneliness is the first thing which God's eye named, not good”
John Milton
~ When everyone leaves you it’s loneliness you feel,
when you leave everyone else it’s solitude.

Some days I challenge the muse and see what comes more than planning the painting far ahead. This one is what happened between the muse and I today. I must admit I had a bit of the start of the holidays blues.

Last Tuesday the whole school, Drangedal Ungdomsskole ( DUS) where I work, went to Gautefall Alpine Center to ski, snowboard or any other activity that pleased us in the fantastic weather. This is something we do every year around this time. This year we were so lucky with the weather as you can see and had a lovely day.

I also have some paintings displayed at a combined exhibition hall and shop there. I used the opportunity to change them a bit. Here is the manager Bodil Gautefall with 3 of my paintings.
