This day too I misjudget distances and ended up exploring quite abit of extra paths and areas hehehe but that is not a bit problem since my main purpose is to be active.

I am able to take the steepest routes uphill but my balance problems kicks in so down again I have to take the long around route. I have invested in lots of band aids and silicone soles for shoes etc etc so painful feet is not going to stop me this spring and summer :-).

Started my day with a walk with my daughter. 1h10min where I also got her to time me running. Her feedback was that I run quite swiftly and with an OK form. 40 seconds at a time for now. One small step forward towards my goal of a body that will allow me to run for 2 minutes. It is not my endurance or breathing that stops me, but my hip joints and muscles stopping to obey my orders after about 30 seconds.

Then I ate a good meal and packed my backpack and my friend and I went for our planned hillwalk. about 7 km walking only upwards, the first 40 minutes fairly steep uphill walking at good brisk speed too, then walking the same way down again. The last half hour was slower as our muscles did not cooperate that willingly anymore. Also my feet was quite sore by now. We did not dare sit down as we had planned for fear of stiffening totally so only very short drinking breaks and we ate our mealbars and fruit while walking. Total of 3h20min effective walking.

Daily total is 4h30min which is much more than my goal of 2h+. Most of it was also challenging. WELL DONE ME!!!!! :-)

tri-mv@online.no's pictureChecking out the workout section on FT, a fitness place online I have joined, I could not stick to my plan of having a rest day so I jumped into the car and drove to the Gym. Went crazy according to my pelvisregion and spent 60 minutes on the rowing machine (last personal best was 25 minutes. Had to do about 15 minutes of flexibility after that to release the muscles who shook quite much when I dragged myself off the machine. I knew however that I pushed myself a millimeter to the right side of the thin balance of the pain being a bad pain and a undangerous one.

From last week on my mental state has been one of wanting to break boundries and a willingness to take the pain that has and will follow. It is kind of overworking on purpose. I am not always in a phase where that is possible so LOL I do it when it is and while it lasts. Next week can be filled with weather triggering my joints not being willing so I just grab every day now when the risk of injury is low.

After the flexibility training I did 35 minutes of Strength training. I was a bit annoyed that my cold + holiday meant that I had to lower the weight on some and that some felt harder. Fortunately it usually only takes a couple of times for that to be back :-). I do want those numbers to get higher too soon.

BUT, running of to the gym on a seconds whim, I dropped half of meal 3 because I naturally did not want to be filled up right before exercising. I do not regret it because I feel very proud of myself at the moment and so does my grown daughter too and that too is an added bonus.

Looking forward to hopefully telling you all of more victories in the future even though I think it will take some time before I break that personal best in rowing. hehehe

tri-mv@online.no's pictureStarted my day with the Back and Neck Training. And at 6p.m. I joined an aerobic group. That means I got two fairly similar sessions so I'll probably skip the first one at least on Mondays because the last one is more of a challenge. Also running to work on overtime in the morning is not a good option.

Anyway, I am fairly proud of my accomplisments today because my ancle was far from happy after the weekend's excesses. I felt really discouraged last night and this morning because I really really wanted to start on the aerobics today. In the end it worked. I put on tight support bandages and chose the pair of shoes that had the best ancle support and with a few adjustments it worked OK.

Ealrier today I also go an invitation to join another woman's walking trip so spring is fantastic in it that day by day more possibilities appear.

When leaving the Sports Hall, a woman approaced me asking me whether I would consider becoming the local Sports Union's Board as a secretary. I have nearly said yes. It is not much of an honor LOL because secretary and cashier are things that many are scared to say yes to.

My wish for tomorrow is for my ancle to be good again and making be able to go for a walk of at least an hour. Maybe a trip to the Gym for some strength training. Time will tell.

Also posted are a couple of photos from my walks this weekend as well as the roedeer that visited my garden at midnight. As you can see we have both winter and signs of spring approaching.

One of my long term goals or rather visions because that is very far ahead, is to pack a backpack and disappear into some mountain area for a week.

LOL getting there means that occationally I do have to stretch myself a bit which I have done this weekend. 3 h 38 minutes walking in the forest and up a couple of hills today. Fairly good speed and quite a bit of incline.

LOL not much below the waist are on speaking terms with me at the moment I must admit, but borders can not be moved unless crossed first.

After reaching my first major goal I am in a process of speeding things up a bit. Me increasing the amount of time spent each time as well as the speed when I do outdoor activities is one way of doing it. Another is me joining a trial session of aerobics tomorrow at 6. I really do not know whether my body will take it now. For one thing my balance is much worse now than the last time I did organized aerobics. I am hoping though. Variation is what will bring me to my next finish line.

At the moment I am in the process of changing to another online support system and can't wait to see all the helpful parts of it and get the support of my own personal online trainer.

Below and above are some of the photos I took. My focus today has been the small beautiful things on my way.

Fantastic weather outdoors so I spent the day outdoors walking briskly. Returning home after 2 hours I met two friends who had just started their exercises so after 2 minutes changing into dry shoes I was off again. After 3 hours we had a 5 minute break and then we returned. Total time 4h 15 min including those 5 min break. Good speed and quite a a bit of incline and decline as well as a part through the woods in snowy incline. Great workout.

Can I feel it? Yepp!!!!!!!!!!! But happy :-).

Also today my first goal was reached. 15 kg down (33 pounds). This means that my 12 week result probably will be in the 35-40 pounds which I think is a very good result considering the obstacles along the way.

We had a fantastic weather today and many were out cross country skiing. Even me, even though I had to stop after 30 minutes due to each step being painful on my toes. As I said I could not get any new style skiing shoes so I used a loaned pair of old fashioned ones and that did not work well. I did however really enjoy my time outdoors.

I did however stay outdoors and walked for another hour and half in the snow on foot making sure I kept my arms moving too. My lower body told me when I was done that it had gotten a good workout so I am satisfied.

I struggled really hard today with my motivation for working out. Neither the treadmill or walking along slippery road sides was tempting after having walked along stunning buildings on ice free cobblestone streets or along the river in Prague for a week. I forced myself out and told myself I would walk at least 20 minutes. In the end i ended up walking on the prepared ski trails, some of it is also a lighted ski trail. It had been prepared with a width of 2-3 meters and was pretty firm so I could walk on the side without ruining anything for skiers.

I was able to double check with 2 of my students who do biathlon on quite a high level so that I felt sure that no skiers would come after me with an axe for walking on shoes along the tracks.

Being able to walk with only forest around me made all the difference today and I ended up being active for 2 hours before I went home and did some snow shovelling.

I am very dependent on physical as well as mental/visual variations to maintain maximum motivation. Exercising in nature gives me that variation. I use to tell myself "Nature never disappoints" because it has always something to show us.

Foodwise I am being a very good girl and I enjoyed tremendously my after workout meal which was chicken and wok vegs and 2 teaspoons of Tsatziki dressing. That made all the difference. :-). Hunger after exercise also is a great cook. As with exercise variation in taste is worth gold for me. I want to keep the enjoyment while eating healthy.

Today was finally the last day before the winter holiday week, and I could feel it. I started my day as usual now on Fridays together with the neck and back group training. I also considered doing a bit more at the gym after work but ended up deciding to build up for a proper workout tomorrow morning. My joints and especially my arm is bothering me quite a bit at the moment so I am doing a balancing act trying to work out as much as possible while at the same time not triggering bad pain too much. It is not possible now to know what I will be able to do tomorrow, but I do hope my body will allow me lots hehe.

Sometimes my fragility scares me. Today one of the elder boy students gave me a man hug just for fun, you know the kind where they pat your back. He was not hard handed but it really hurt and for quite a bit afterwards as well. My very tissue gives me pain so very easily and I desper. It is also in collision with my personality which is more at home on the bare mountains than in the greenhouse.

My journey will always be twosided, rehabbing what can be fixed or improved and trying to make the rest more bearable.

3 hour workout

tri-mv@online.no's picture

We're quite a bit ahead here in Norway timewise compared to the US so the Olympic Games cerimony started at 03.00 here. I slept while that happened but early in the mroning a repeat started. The choice was then whether to start my day watching physical activity or being active myself. Still too cold outside for a nice walk so the Gym was the only option this early.

Of course I went to the gym :-). Getting there with more than 3 hours to spare before they closed this Saturday I gave myself a challenge in honor of my daughter's 22nd Bday today; To give it all those 3 hours.

And I did!. I spent every pause between sets in one exercise either stretching or doing another exercise. After feeling let down by my body yesterday I also needed to recapture the feeling of me being in charge of my body and not the other way around. So well done me!

Afterwards I went for a short quiet walk outdoors to enjoy a wonderful sunny and blue sky weather which made it fairly warm in the sun although still very cold in the shade. If this weather continues my plan is for a very long walk tomorrow.

Wishing you all a great Olympic Games and workout weekend. :-)

Warning!!!! Complaining follows!!!

Went to the neck and back training group with physiotherapist this morning again. Tried to be more careful with my bad arm but still ended up with pain in both arms and shoulders. I felt that so many parts of my body would not work properly today and despered at the thought of how much work there is left for me before I work properly physically. So many parts have probably been used wrongly or almost not due to my chronic medical conditions and this training brings that fact up into the open. Normally one learns to do movements in a manner that avoids problems and pain, so many supportive muscles do need a lot of help before they will again work properly. SIGH. At the moment it feels like an endless job. Also my hands ache today so the weather forecast predicting more wet weather and snow this weekend is probably right.

I am very convinced that I need to continue these classes but at the moment I so do not look forward to triggering so many of my weak spots twice weekly. The very best part is the same as the worst part of these classes.

At the moment I feel totally sick and tired of fighting with my body and with pain, so I am taking a strong antiinflammatory pill and plan to go upstrairs to hide under the duvet for a couple of hours. Hopefully things will be brighter later tonight. To get better in the long run I will need to find the motivation to continue working on rehab as well as building strength also through the more painfilled periods.

[... end of complaining]

Things got better and I considered deleting the above. Then I thought, struggling is also part of the journey and editing out everything besides reports of challenges met with a happy smile from the first to the last minute is giving a false impression on how a journey like this really is. Reading this might give someone reading it later hope that they too can continue even when days like this is also part of the journey so I decided to let it stay.

Things got better partly due to the meds but also because I myself managed to mentally as well as physically do something contructive. Mentally I started thinking about psykomotoric theory which talks about how emotions can be "saved" within muscles - the body remembers and as stiff muscles are getting loosened up the emotions as well are released. When young I worked with aromatherapy and we often saw that the muscular relaxation had people in tears. To come to the point, while resting I concluded that it was possible that was one of the reasons I was so tearful earlier today. If that is the reason then me getting that emotional was a good thing because it meant that I got rid of a piece of sorrow today. Anyway, thinking that allows me to see some meaning and that is important for me when facing these challenges.

Secondly, I was very non environmental for once and spent much hot water in the shower and that combined with the meds has taken care of the brunt of the pain. :-). Also, probably a female thing, I did the big body pampering thing while there and that too is a way of lifting the spirit. It even gave me the confidence to do the horrible measurements. LOL.

Hopefully tomorrow will be a wonderful day healthwise

tri-mv@online.no's picture

Today I started the twice weekly Back and Neck Training that is lead by a Physiotherapist. It was very good because it was kind of low intensity but still felt very intense because she made us do exercises that challenged our bodies with movements that we either normally don't do or have taught ourselves not to do to avoid pain. Several very simple exercises were quite difficult just for that reason. That made me very satisfied and determined to continue with it even though it is a bit challenging because it lasts a bit after my work starts. An understanding inspector and principal at my work makes it possible, at least for a time.

Well, I skipped the last part which was relaxation (somewhat similar to autogen training I think) and run from the gym hall to the classroom. In short it is hectic to make it possible, but I think it will be worth that and the costs.

After work and the after work meeting I went home but was not satisfied so in the end I drove down to the Gym tonight and spent 66 minutes on the treadmill hehe. For some strange reason I ended up with blisters UNDER my foot today. Very strange.

Today I really was not very motivated for any workouts but I packed my gymbag and got moving.

* 40 min treadmill (5.6km/h, incline 2.5 With a couple of 30 sec running at 7.5 thrown in)
* 22 min of Strength (Leg press 12x165/175/185/185kg) and Toe raises on Leg press machine on 105kg: 2 sets of 12) + Stretches
* 10 min Row Machine (level 10, 1700m)

Then the Gym closed so I found my trusted Snowy Forest Road and followed it far into the woods for 1h 22 min at quite a good speed 2/3 of the way. The last bit was on a lower "gear". Lovely Trip. I only met a tractor and not a single car.

Stiff and Sore? YEPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fantastic Day

tri-mv@online.no's picture

I've had a fantastic day today. Car started this morning which made my life so much easier. Then I was allowed by the inspector at work to leave an hour early so I hit the gym very early and could spend much time there without it becoming very late.

At the gym I was able to do not one but two cardio sessions. One before Strength and one after. Both more than 30 minutes with increased speed and and incline of 2 or 2.5. On the first one I even managed to do 3 intervals of kind of running for 30 seconds while holding the bars. That is major for me because I usually do not run and mastering running on the treadmill is one of my goals.

Cardio was good, I built up a good sweat and HR was 140-147 most of the time which is exactly where I wanted it to be.

In between the cardio sets I did 1h10min of very effective strenght training where I increased weight as well as did new exercises. Very happy about today's workout.

Foodwise, my cravings has left me again and I was able to really enjoy my evening meal of wok vegs and chicken.

To sum up: I have had agreat day and feel ready to do well for another month.
